Chapter CelestialJim Adams ‘59, formerly of Reedville, died May 19, 2017, in Arlington.

James Stephen Adams was born May 28, 1936, in Cecil, Pa., to Joseph and Irene Adams. He graduated from Penn State in 1959 with a degree in metallurgy, a field in which he remained his entire career. In 1960 he married the former Marcia Wooley. After her death last August he relocated to Arlington to be closer to his daughter.

Management in steel manufacturing with Weirton Steel, Great Lakes Steel, McLouth Steel and AK Steel took Jim from Detroit, Mich., to Ashland, Ky. With retirement, he and Marcia moved to Reedville, their home for 16 years.

Although he was active for a time with the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum boat shop, the Baytones barbershop chorus and St. Mary’s church choir, it was Jim’s creativity in woodworking that occupied him most. He looked for interesting wood on his property and turned out beautifully turned pieces that he gave away as gifts.

A side that many here might not know, Jim used to regale guests with renditions of bawdy songs and he and Marcia performed in community theatre musicals while still living in Grosse Ile, Mich. He was a man of wide interests and varied skills and he was very generous in sharing them.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Suzanne Adams of Alexandria, and Allison Elizabeth Adams Hegarty (Joe) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was predeceased by his wife Marcia, his parents and his brother, Joseph Adams Jr.
